The SRT Facilities are located in Durgin Hall, on the South Campus of the University of Massachusetts Lowell. All studios are within close proximity to or are adjacent with each other, on the first and second floors of the building, and are interfaced with one another via an intricate complement of audio, video, data and fiber optic connections to ensure maximum flexibility. Our students can expect to spend hundreds of hours in our facilities during their junior and senior years, and as graduate students. This can further increase substantially for the motivated student involved in assisting other students with their projects and faculty members with their research, or helping out with service and maintenance, and development projects within the facilities. Our studios were carefully designed and equipped with the education of our students as a priority. This makes them very different from commercial facilities. Seniors and graduate students work in rooms which are laboratories as well as studios -- rooms equipped with both experimental and time-tested technologies. Other rooms are more streamlined production spaces, with the goal of making a student’s early studio experiences informative, productive, and relevant to future studies. As a collection, these exceptional facilities provide students with meaningful experiences that strongly represent the great diversity of skills and knowledge required of people entering the audio recording field. |
